Biography
Dr.Itzhak Avital, MD, MBA, FACS, is an established surgical oncologist and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Avital has 15 years of uniquely diversified experience in his specialty and a vast expertise in hepatobiliary surgery and hyper-thermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy treatment. Furthermore, Dr. Avital is the Executive Medical Director of The Bon Secours Cancer Institute in Virginia. Dr. Avital performed the first hyper-thermic intraoperative peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in central Virginia. In addition to his work with Saint Peter’s University Hospital, Dr. Avital is the CEO and Executive Medical Director of P8Medicine in Virginia and Professor of Surgery at Rutgers University/Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. He previously served as Head of the Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Malignancies Section, Surgery Branch, at the National Cancer Institute between 2006 and 2012. His international background includes his roles as Professor of Surgery at the Medical School of the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, Professor of Surgery at the Chinese National Colorectal Cancer Institute in Nanjing, China, and Visiting Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Hadassah Hospital in Israel. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Transplant Association, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the American Hepato-Pancreato-biliary Association, the International Society for Stem Cells Research, and the American Society for Peritoneal Surface Malignancies As a result of his outstanding performance in the field of surgical oncology, The International Association of HealthCare Professionals has selected Dr. Itzhak to be featured in the premier publication of The Leading Physicians of the World
